Rebirth: The Awakening Of A Witch Read online

In the end, I realized I wasn’t alone anymore. Finding out I was a witch helped me acquire back that missing connection I lost when my parents died. Discovering that this side of me existed made me feel even closer to them, my mom in particular. Somehow I just felt rooted to the world, and I felt alive again. I’m still adjusting to my mystical side right now, but I know I was going to get through it because I had the Fields siblings with me.

“Hey,” I called out when I reached the foot of the stairs. My eyes widened when I raked in his entire form. He looked incredible in a shiny black, form-fitted tux. Oh my God! I thought my head was about to explode with my inner voice on constant scream mode, continuously crying out how gorgeous he was. He looked so polished tonight. Polished and hot. Something was different, though. “Did you cut your hair?” I asked after I finally figured it out. He just nodded smugly. That was another one of his traits that I recently discovered. He has this fun, cocky side to him that he lets out when the occasion calls for it. His hair was short now, stylishly tousled in a fashionable way, and I could tell that he put on some gel tonight. Seriously, even without the knowledge of that prophecy, I was so certain that I would be attracted to him. Who wouldn’t be? If he didn’t get mobbed by girls before, I’m sure he would be now.

I grinned happily as I dragged my eyes back to his. I immediately blushed when I saw that he was ogling me probably the same way as I did just a few moments ago. Elise forced the idea of us going with each other tonight. According to her, it was only natural since we were, in a way, betrothed. As always, Elise knew how to make things awkward. She was so like her twin despite her firm defiance when I pointed out that fact. We didn’t give in to her urging and just let nature take its course. In the end, Adrien formally asked me to go with him just last week. I was surprised at first, but I was happy that he didn’t give in to Elise’s pushiness. It held more meaning when he did it on his own free will.

He slowly walked towards me and gave me a single blue lotus flower. I frowned a bit, but I still happily accepted it. It was unusual to be giving someone this kind of flower. “Why a lotus?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.

He shifted on his feet and placed his hands on his pockets before answering. “I know you love lilacs, but I wanted to give you this because it reminds me so much about you,” he began, looking at the flower as I twirled it in my hand. “A lotus flower signifies rebirth because of its ability to retract back to dirty waters each night and still break the surface as clean, as pure, and as fresh the next morning.” My frown only managed to deepen at what he just explained. He smiled and continued on. “It kind of reminds me how the other side of you just awakened and how easy it seemed for you to cope with it. Actually, the entire process still baffles me,” he said softly, his brows furrowing a bit. “Plus a lotus with this color signifies a deeper understanding and success over all the senses. Your psychic abilities and how you manage to be very observant of everyone’s feelings and emotions are the exact reasons why people like being around you, Sky.” He slightly blushed at that last comment.

“Thank you, Adrien. I love it.” I grinned at him, again dumbfounded at his insightfulness. That’s been happening a lot recently. He always manages to surprise me with the complexity and depth of his thoughts, adding another reason to the already numerous ones that enthrall me to him.

I ushered him to wait for me outside as I went to the kitchen. He didn’t listen to me, though. Stubborn guy. He accompanied me and patiently waited by the kitchen counter as I placed the flower in a vase filled with water and left it in the middle of the dining table. I grinned as a thought struck me. I think I have a new favorite flower.

We left after saying goodnight to Nana. And as we walked together towards his car, I couldn’t shake off that feeling that somebody was watching us. I shrugged that thought aside. I didn’t sense any danger accompanying that presence, and I didn’t want Adrien to be bothered with unnecessary things tonight. I beamed when he opened the passenger door for me. Yep, I am definitely not going to ruin this night by saying anything.
